Package
tours from the UK can be good
value
if you go midweek (less so weekends).
In
the midweek case, the flight and 2 nights accom in a 3*
Hotel is often cheaper than paying for a flight alone
. "Cresta",
seem to be the cheapest of the large
operators,
details of their Amsterdam packages are to be found in their
"Amsterdam and Paris" brochure available at most big travel
agent chains. Or
put your own package together, separate flight and hotel
booking through a Travel Agent, an independant one might be
better for this as they have no "own products" to push.
Worth an enquiry as I have recently heard of people getting
some very good deals this way -like
a
£30 return flight via BMI from Heathrow,
(2
people,departing Sunday, returning 4 days later) I
have stayed several times at
the
Hotel
Rho,
which, a little noisy, and nothing special as a 3 star hotel
beyond its architecture - it was formally a theatre - is
wonderfully located 20 yards or so from the Dam Monument and
consequently shops, restaurants, trams etc are within easy
distance. The
Hotel can be a little noisy late at night - and in the
morning due to the hammering etc from a nearby bicycle
rental business which seems to open
disgustingly
early
- so
take some earplugs if you are a light
sleeper. En-Suite
facilities are reasonal size and usually it is one small
step down and another smaller one into the
shower. The
Hotel does have its own secure car parking facilities -f40
(€18) per day - if required.
While
not having disabled access at the front entrance or having
disabled converted rooms, the Hotel Rho does have some
accessible rooms. I saw one guest in a wheelchair last time
I was there. There are ramps on the accommodation floors.
However, as the Rho is a converted Theatre, the corridors,
while wheelchair friendly, are like labrynths. See "Travel
report 2" for another opinion on the "Rho".![]()
