Travel
Insurance
Always
take adequate Travel Insurance however you
travel
&
shop around for it.
In
the UK,
travel agents
own insurance is often very expensive - profit margins are
so small on holidays that they need to
make
a large profit on the insurance
(though sometimes it is also free/cheap as part of a booking
promotion) (An
example: Insurance for a family of four
for
one week
from Travel Agent: £160
(typical
average price). From Insurance Broker:
£65for
a whole year
!)
Try
the Internet, Supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury who have
moved into this area, or even the chain Chemists like Boots
and Lloyds who also now do travel insurance
Whatever
you buy, check what is covered carefully.
Contrary
to popular belief, the British Embassy is under no
obligation whatsoever (in any country) to ship you home free
in the event of an accident or all your money & tickets
/stuff being lost or ripped off.
Neither
are they compelled to lend you money to get
home.
Only
very basic medicare is available under the British/European
"E111" reciprocal free medical scheme - Dutch Hospitals give
a very good, with a fast service, but it aint free -based on
personal experience !!
Lets
not even think about the cost of hospital bills & an air
ambulance in the (hopefully unlikely) event of you falling
down some of the notoriously steep Dutch stairs while off
your trolley on the local weed/alcohol and breaking your leg
!
As
you can guess this has actually happened, - to a visitor to
this site - she, sensibly, had travel insurance .
In
the event of cancellation it also covers, in certain cases,
e.g, certified illness, the refund of your hard earned money
from the travel agent.
So,
get covered from the day you book
flights/packages.
