Hotels tend to be
expensive, €100 minimum per night for 3 * ($100,
£67) is a typical "walk in" price March to October.
There
are, however, savings to be made on the
way
you book your hotel wherever you live in the
world.
Booking
on the internet or with a travel agent
may
not
always as cheap as booking direct
with the hotel,
direct booking may save you serious money if you plan to
stay in Amsterdam for a week or more or just for a few
mid week days. Try to avoid global public holidays like
Easter and Whitsun, when demand rises,
better
rates are to be had between October &
March,
but if you book early, you may also get a good Summer
rate.
A good strategy
would be to pick up an Amsterdam travel brochure, select
several possible hotels, check the internet hotel booking
sites for prices and phone numbers of the hotels and call
or fax/e-mail them to see what is on offer. Check the
price of the cheapest air fare and compare total with
package price.
I
have just saved 20%
on average brochure Summer price by booking flight &
hotel on internet - with very little
effort.
Needless
to say, you will not get these best rates if you leave
booking your hotel till you arrive. (see "Where to
Stay"for how to do this).
