Site visitor "Geoff" sez he has always stayed at the "Winston" Hotel on Warmoestraat:

"Cheap, friendly and very strange decor with a lot of rooms designed and kitted out by artists - scope out the Durex room with complimentary rubber novelties!!.The hotel even has its own club catering for all tastes from transvestite poetry (well it is on Warmoestraat) to all female Japanese punk band................."

(Feb 2003: However, I have had a recent report that the hotel has become a bit run down and in need of some maintainance.)

The Hotel has a just updated website with pics of the rooms and has online booking

Thanks Geoff for this and the info on "Easyjet".

More of your Hotel recommendations, please

There are a lot of little 1* & 2* hotels in the vicinity of Central station, most do not have lifts and their stair cases are very steep. Lemming ("Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory") recommends the Hotel Schirmann International at Prins Hendrikade 23, +31 20 6241942,he says it has stairs which are almost like ladders to climb, but there are great views from the rooms in the front and it is pretty cheap for the location . (Which, I must add, is likely to be pretty noisy as it is very near Central station and its trams. Some earplugs might be a good idea. Note also Dutch stairs can be very tricky - particularly going down !)

"FACTORY051" recommends The Albus Grand Hotel on Vijzelstraat - the roadthat runs south from the Muntplein and close to some good coffeeshops such as Rokerij 3. The hotel is quite cool about smokers, so long as you are discrete -remember to open the windows when you go out. Reports good access for wheelchairs with a good sized lift.
