Barneys. 102 Haarlemmerstraat. A very popular little bit of the Emerald Isle in Old Amsterdam. Decor is best described as your local cafe/diner on a "trip" !

Barneys is unique in that it opens between 7.30 am and 7.30pm, and also serves meals. It is a home from home for visitors from Eire, UK and USA and famous for its all-day Irish Breakfasts - which is essentially the traditional cooked English breakfast, eggs, bacon etc. Food served until around 2.30, then its "Barneys Brasserie" for food (see below)

Personally, I think there is no better way to start an Amsterdam day than two bacon sandwiches, a mug of tea and a "fat one" in Barneys - whatever time of the afternoon it may be !

Good "Menu" of smokeables, Cannabis and Press Cup Cup winner 2001 for "Sweet Tooth".

Bongs are available if required.

A narrow door and 2 steps down.

New: "Barneys Brasserie" opens daily until 5.30pm Breakfast and Lunch.

Barneys Brasserie

Situated atHaarlemmerstraat 98, a few doors before the original shop. Small clean almost minimalist decor and airy interior. Has table & chairs outside under the red canopy in pic above and very comfortable seating inside around tables similar to those in the coffeeshop. Nice quiet vibe. No Cannabis sales but smoking permitted.

Reasonable access with one small step up, but if the weather is good, get a table outside as most of the furniture inside is mostly built in

Getting there. This is a longish walk with no tram option. From the Dam monument cross Damrak and bear to your right and walk up Nieuwendijk, the pedestrianized shopping street, to where it joins Nieuwzijds Voorburgwal, cross the road and continue straight ahead -which is a continuation of Nieuwendijk - and then just continue in a straight line, checking the street names. Walk on the right side of the road as it is very easy to walk past Barneys, it only has a small front window. There are lots of interesting little shops, coffee and otherwise, en-route, so it is not too boring a walk.
