Clientele
is interesting and varied. Due to size (small) conversations
are ongoing and interesting. I can even remember one or two
of them. "Betty
Boop"
is
at
Nieuwezizds
Kolk 12,
a pedestrianized plaza about half way down Nieuwzizds
Voorburgwal. June
2001: Visited Betty Boops early in the day, this shop is a
little gem, great "Betty" decor and very friendly staff with
9 Hashes and 6 grasses on the menu. I also liked that it
usually opens at 0900 daily - most in Centrum open at 1000
hrs. The
bar has a vivarium on it which is home to 10 "Poison Dart"
frogs 7 black and yellow, 1 Black and white and a 2 purple
ones, all of whom are very active during daylight hours and
whose antics are fascinating to watch when stoned
! Upstairs,
reached by a small, steep, narrow spiral staircase, which is
indeed "tricky", there are 4 Internet sets, this area is
slowly being re-decorated and will have another vivarium
when finished. Internet is €1 for 20 minutes and currently
available. Sept
2002. The frogs are currently in a bigger Vivarium upstairs
in the internet room, but may soon return to the Bar.
Meanwhile, the downstairs vivarium is home to some tropical
plants - and a small fish that mysteriously appeared after
the tank was emptied of all known fish &
frogs!! ("Johnny",
did you ever manage to leave Amsterdam & return to
Spain?)
"Would
recommend you try Betty Boop Coffeeshop as over the last 5
or so years it has become my place of choice. Nice, relaxed
atmosphere with warm friendly staff. They are all
great friends, enjoy their jobs and make you feel like you
stopped by for a visit before hitting the pavement for
tours.
(absolutely
correct !)
The
entrance would work well for disabled persons although the
toilets and Internet is up stairs. One of those tricky
stairways!"
