Homegrown
Fantasy. Nieuwezijds
Voorburgwal 87A.
This smallish shop is a delightful place with a great
laid-back atmosphere reminiscent of a Paris cafe in some
respects and, from the observed clientele, it is obviously a
great favorite with the locals. This is a relatively quiet
shop with a very mellow vibe, and may not suit those looking
for loud music and a very lively atmosphere, but it is great
for chilling out a while. I just love this place and cannot
recommend it too highly. The
menu is totally organically grown grass for which they have
an excellent reputation and many awards. This
shop also gets the top award for the strangest Coffee shop
Toilet ! - be sure to visit it if possible- no
charge!
(incidentally,
expect to pay 50 cents if you use a toilet at Central
Station or in a Department store, Bar or Hotel - coffee shop
ones - which vary wildly in quality !! - are usually free.
) Opening
Hours: Sunday - Thurs: 9AM - Midnight, Fri & Sat: 9AM -
1AM Homegrown
Fantasy`s new Bar & DJ Cafe (next door to the
Coffeeshop. ) Opens
7 days a week. Mon - Thurs: 4PM
-1AM, Fri & Sat: 4PM
- 3AM Has
a huge bar and currently features cheap Beer at €1.50,
Smoking is permitted
but no Cannabis sales
(available in the Coffeeshop which I think keeps much the
same evening hours )
Has resident & visiting DJ`s playing a variety of styles
nightly, if
you are a DJ, you are encouraged to ask as to doing a Set.
Available for small parties (40-60 people) The
interior is large with tables and chairs, Settees/Sofas
& arm chairs. (Suggest
you check it out - this is like a club with a chill out room
as a coffeeshop- except you dont have to pay a large entry
fee - well cool arrangement !!) Getting
there
from
the Dam monument, cross the road onto a large cobbled area
and head towards the road on your right a few yards away,
this is Moses and Aaronstraat, cross it and follow it away
from the Dam, turn right at the end into Nieuwezijds
Voorburgwal and walk up toward Central station, look out for
the shop sign which is an eye, as can be seen from the photo
above, there is no large over-door or window sign.
YES!
-entrance
with wheelchair IS possible!! - but shop is a bit narrow and
the "famous" toilet is down a
step.
