Restaurants:
Disabled visitors will be able to access most ground floor
restaurants, though toilets are often up steep
stairs.
Anyone
got any
info
on Amsterdam restaurants with good access etc. for the
disabled?
Meanwhile,
"VVV" at Central Station
06 340 34066 may be able to help on restaurant
suitability.
The
ONLY cafe with with a disabled -friendly
Toilet/Restroom/"Toiletten" or "Vay-Say ("WC")" is "t`Nieuwe
Cafe" in Dam Square. But please see Rich`s info on next
pages for more options.

Coffeeshops
As
the Trams
are
not generally disabled friendly, I have confined my research
to the centre and have found
3
Coffeeshops
within easy distance from the
Dam monument
which I think, as an ABLE
BODIED PERSON, (i.e. what do I
know?)
that wheelchair users and others can enter with minimum
difficulty - I hope this is the case - please let me know if
it is not.
The
Dampkring
has also got some very good write-ups from contributors Rich
& Stuart (see next pages).
and
Steve, a Wheelchair user from Alabama, USA
writes:
"I
just returned from a very enjoyable 7-day visit. Here's
another accessible coffee shop you may wish to add to your
site sometime... Freeworld
Coffee shop (and internet cafe) it's at Nieuwendijk 30
The
entrance is flat
- no steps at all. there's an upper level in back but it has
several steps. the
front room (where you enter) has two computers.
more computers in the rear upper level. Atmosphere? Nothing
special. The music? not my type, really - what some call
"industry" music. But friendly people, and there's a Bar.
the hash and pot menu is displayed right there on the bar.
But, again... no steps.
That's rare for coffee shops, as you know, and magic words
for a wheeler."
Yeah,
I know this place, its on the way to "Barneys" (see
Coffeeshops" pages), I`ve used the internet facilities
there, it`s reasonably priced and and is as Steve says it
is.
